🌿 Off Grid-ish: Sometimes the Best Adventures Start with a Slightly Crazy Idea

Confession time...

We're probably never going to be the business doing TikTok dances. And while we love sharing the transformations we create for our clients, we also believe people's homes and businesses deserve their privacy. (Getting a property ready for sale is about the only exception!)

So, we thought we'd do something a little different.

Welcome to Off Grid-ish—our own adventure as we create a boutique Airbnb retreat in the hills of Paluma after we randomly bought a block of land on a lunch date.

This isn't going to be a polished renovation show or one of those projects where everything magically goes to plan. It's the real story. The wins, the setbacks, the problem-solving, the campfires, the laughs and probably a few moments where we question our sanity.

After all, isn't that what building something worthwhile is really about?

The Pod Arrives

This weekend marked a pretty significant milestone.

Our little pod finally made its way home.

We picked it up and headed up the back Hervey Range Road, trying not to think too much about the journey ahead. Sitting inside the pod is one very large, very beautiful glass window and, if we're honest, we spent most of the drive quietly expecting it to arrive in a thousand pieces.

Thankfully, it survived every bump, bend and pothole.

One hurdle down.

The "Driveway"

Getting to the property was another story.

Calling it a driveway might be a little generous at this stage.

Watching the truck negotiate the descent was one of those moments where everyone goes a little quiet. You know the ones. No one says much because everyone is thinking exactly the same thing.

Fortunately, with plenty of patience, some careful manoeuvring and a very capable driver, we got there in the end.

The pod was finally sitting where it belonged.

It suddenly started to feel real.

Why We're Doing This

Projects like this are easy to think of as just another building job.

But standing there as the afternoon turned into evening reminded us why we started in the first place.

The fire was crackling.

The marshmallows were roasting.

Mahjong tiles were clacking around the table.

Chef Gav was busy serving up camp oven beef korma with couscous that tasted even better after a long day of lifting, planning and crossing fingers.

Above us was one of those incredible Paluma skies that seems to have more stars than you remember existing.

It was peaceful.

Simple.

Exactly what we'd hoped this place would become.

More Than Just an Airbnb

For now, the pod will be our base while we build.

Eventually, it'll become a cosy guest suite where others can escape city life, slow down for a while and experience everything we love about Paluma.

There is still plenty to do.

We'll be installing services, building decks, creating outdoor spaces, tackling landscaping, making mistakes, learning as we go and probably discovering a few jobs we didn't know existed.

And we'll share all of it.

Not because we're builders or influencers, but because we enjoy creating things and we thought you might enjoy coming along for the journey.

We hope you'll follow along as Off Grid-ish unfolds over the coming months. We can't promise every weekend will go to plan, but we can promise it'll be honest, there'll be plenty of laughs, and there'll almost certainly be a campfire at the end of the day.
